Houlton, Maine - Wendell G. Guy, 97, died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on Saturday, August 1, 2026. Born in Houlton on July 21, 1929, he was the son of Gordon and Dorothy (Smith) Guy.

He attended Houlton schools before entering the United States Army, where he served during World War II. After returning home, he married the love of his life, Patricia (Downie) Guy. Together they shared 64 years of marriage and raised four children.

Known affectionately as the "Mayor of Grove Street," Wendell earned admiration for his kindness, compassion, loyalty, and commitment to those he loved. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and bowling and was an accomplished pool player. A lifetime member of the Houlton Lodge of Elks, he proudly maintained his membership for more than 60 years. He was employed by Grant's Dairy, Northeast Publishing Company, and owned and operated "The Pawn Shop." He worked well into his nineties, selling used goods and furniture to customers throughout the area. Nothing brought Wendell greater happiness than spending time with his family. He loved the family camp on Brackett Lake in Weston and looked forward to holidays, when laughter filled the house, the family table overflowed with people, and his grandchildren competed for his attention.

He is survived by his devoted daughter and caregiver, Wendy Lynds of Littleton; his daughter-in-law, Jane Guy of Hodgdon; his grandchildren, Michele Stevens (Jamie), Andrew Guy (Brandy), Brandi Guy, Dr. Jeffrey Lynds, Jen Lynds (Daniel Dobbs), Jordan Guy (Gabi Ingersoll), Tabor Young, Ashley Guy, Dr. Aimee Beaton, and Nick Guy; his sisters-in-law, Nina Capuano (Tony) and Virginia Downie; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to his parents and seven siblings, Wendell was predeceased by his beloved wife, Patricia (Downie) Guy; his three sons, Dennis M. Guy, Timothy A. Guy, and David P. Guy; son-in-law, Jerre Lynds; brother-in-law, Ronald Downie; his sisters-in-law, Mary Alward, Melody Downie, and Gail Ellen Downie; and his brother-in-law, Terry Wayne Downie.

Relatives and friends are welcome to call 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at Dunn Funeral Home, 11 Park St., Houlton. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 13, 2026, at St. Mary's Cemetery, Houlton. A gathering will follow the service at the Houlton Lodge of Elks, 86 Main Street, Houlton.
