Gouldsboro, Maine - Thomas "Tom" R. Allan, 77, died at his home in Gouldsboro, November 8, 2025. He was born June 16, 1948, in West Gouldsboro, the son of Chester E. and Gwendolyn T. (Whalen) Allan.
He was raised in the County but spent most of his later life Down East. His wish was to be buried at the Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery in Caribou. Dedicated to a life of service, he enlisted in the Army in 1967, served 3 years, 2 months and 28 days. He earned his Army intelligence certificate at Fort Holibird, MD. In the Army, served as an imagery analyst aboard the OV-1B Mohawk aircraft in Vietnam.
After leaving the Army he worked as a machinist where he met his lifelong wife, Lee Ann. They were together for 47 years. Eventually he found a career serving as a corrections officer at the Penobscot County Sheriff Office. He served as a corrections officer for 20 years, from 1988 to 2008 when he retired.
Along with his wife, Tom is survived by his son, John Allan and his children, Madelene and Matthias; a son, Matthews Allan and wife, Beatriz, and their children, Marisol and John; and by Tim Moore who is like an "adopted son" to him, Tim's wife, Caroline, and their children, Elspeth and Guinevere; and a sister, Liane Grodewald. Tom will join his parents; brother, Nelson; and sister, Gwendolyn Marie, in the arms of God.
His long list of accomplishments includes convincing the Bricklin factory officials in New Brunswick that he was a journalist who knew Malcolm Bricklin personally. Thus, he was given the keys to a new Bricklin to take for a ride for the day. Keeping the family farm in the family in spite of its cash crop of rocks. He managed to raise the ire of nearly every person he met, while somehow keeping the same best friend he had through high school, Carroll Underwood. Tom Allan will be sorely missed on this earth.
Graveside services will be announced in spring 2026 at Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery, 37 Lombard Rd, Caribou, ME. Those who desire may make contributions in Tom's memory to Northern Light Home Care & Hospice, 441 Main St., Ellsworth, ME 04605. Condolences may be expressed at jordanfernald.com.
