Monticello, Maine - Thomas Lee Good passed suddenly on Saturday June 13, 2026. He was a kind and caring man who approached every day with purpose and a plan. Fittingly, he died getting ready to begin another productive day of living. "Let's get up and get going" - Tom was 83 years young.

With his spirited hustle and energy, Thomas, Tom, Tommy, built his life on being busy and he expressed that life philosophy in many different ways. He was devoted to his family, his career as a potato farmer, his love for his childhood town of Monticello and the wider community of Aroostook County. He loved dogs, cats, horses, photographing and feeding wildlife, fishing, snowmobiling, vintage cars and tractors, and gardening flowers. Tom was a prankster and had the soul of an artist. His planted fields were a reflection of his appreciation for the land's natural beauty and aesthetic.

Born on July 26, 1942 in Buffalo, New York, to Lawrence C. Good of Monticello, Maine, and Florence L. Clark Good of Medford, Massachusetts, Tom was the last surviving polio victim in Aroostook County, and he did not let it slow him down from achieving his dreams. He graduated from Ricker Classical Institute, class of 1960, began his studies post graduate at Ricker College in 1961 then left to sell ice cream on the beach in St. Petersburg, Florida.

In 1963 he returned to Monticello to join the family business and to marry gorgeous Rachel Sylvester in August, where they began to build an extraordinary life and partnership during the shared work of potato farming. Their 60-year marriage was an example of diplomacy, patience and trust in one another. They built their success together.

Tom was the type of man who was there when you needed him. His many lighted contributions to our lives were reflected in his commitment to being an incredible father, grandfather and great-grandfather, uncle and friend. Tom was a leader in the Aroostook County Agricultural industry and a successful business man building the generational family potato business into a thriving enterprise that grew, packed, distributed and shipped potatoes to markets in Maine, Massachusetts and along the Eastern seaboard. He served as a selectperson for the town of Monticello, deeply ingrained in helping his childhood community thrive. He was a member of the Masonic Monument Lodge No. 96, Monticello Grange, Maine Potato Board, and APCAW (Ash Protection Collaboration Across Waponahkik).

Tom is lovingly remembered and cherished by his three children, Aimee Good and her husband, Joshua Margolis, and their daughter, Matilda, Eric Good and his wife, Lisa Good, and their children, Maxwell, Madeline, Tyler, Carter and Sydney, and Paige (Good) Hilts and her husband, Thomas Hilts, and their sons, Atticus, Odin and Odysseus; great-grandchildren, Tanner Carmichael, Halston Good, and Cooper, Autumn, Emery and Layne Bartlett; his sister, Nancy Good Cayford and husband, Phillip Cayford; brother-in-law, Daniel Webb (widower of his sister, Joanne Good Webb); his sisters-in-law, Jennifer (Fusedale) Sylvester (widow of Torrey Sylvester) and Kimball Sylvester Rinfret (widow of Robert Rinfret); along with many beloved nieces and nephews, who considered Uncle Tom their second father.

The Good family also shares its utmost gratitude to the local circle of community members who were integral to the operations of Good Farms Inc., and those who spent morning breakfasts with Tom at Monticello Country Store creating a web of stories, life experiences and friendship.

Calling hours were held on July 16 with a graveside service at Jewell Corner Cemetery on July 17, 2026. Tom will be deeply missed by many in our community.
