Ashland and Limestone, Maine - Pierre J. Gagne, 72, husband of the late Carrie J. Smith-Gagne, passed away Tuesday evening, August 5, 2025, at a Bangor healthcare facility, as the result of a tragic automobile accident in Fort Fairfield. He was born May 17, 1953, in Rivière-Bleue, Quebec, the son of Patrick and Jeannine (St. Pierre) Gagne.

He was a graduate of the Ashland High School, class of 1974 and furthered his education at the University of Maine at Orono earning a master's degree in English. He was married to Carrie Smith on May 25, 1990, and was employed by J. Paul Levesque Lumber for more than thirty years. Pierre was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, writing and gardening.

In addition to his parents, Pierre was predeceased by his wife, Carrie on August 5, 2025; and one brother, Mark Gagne. He is survived by one son, Alan R. Hitchcock of Limestone; one sister and brother-in-law, Joanne and Walter O'Neal of Mt. Vernon; one brother and sister-in-law, Bert and Debbie Gagne of Pompano Beach, FL; one grandson, Shepard A. Hitchcock of Caribou; and his mother-in-law, Norma Smith of Presque Isle; one niece; one nephew; and two great-nieces and two great-nephews.

Friends may call Saturday, August 16, 2025, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield, where a service to celebrate the lives of both Pierre and Carrie will be conducted at 1 p.m. with Pastor Michael Sullivan officiating. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held at the VFW Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, 130 Presque Isle St., Fort Fairfield.
