Presque Isle - On January 11, 2020 Phyllis J. McBride Hovey went to be with her Lord. She died as she lived, with quiet dignity.
Phyllis was the daughter of Olive and Vernon McBride of Littleton, Maine. She was one of three girls and was predeceased by her older sister, Elizabeth M. Boissard of Connecticut and leaves her younger sister Reita M. Briggs of Houlton, Maine.
Phyllis was a 1947 graduate of Ricker Classical Institute and practiced as a dental hygienist in her early adult years. She was not only smart but a beauty and was crowned Miss Littleton for the Maine Potato Festival in 1949.
Phyllis would tell you she had a wonderful life with her husband of almost 69 years, G. Melvin Hovey, Presque Isle who adored her. For Phyllis everything was about family; she leaves a daughter; DebraLee Hovey and her husband Paul Balsano of Virginia, a son; Mark M. Hovey and his wife Luanne Renquin Hovey of Belgrade, Maine and her heart's delight, her grandchildren: Christopher J. Hovey, Yarmouth; Bailly Hovey Lockhart, Oakland; Taylor M. Hovey, Biddeford; Parker M. Hovey, Westbrook and Jessica Balsano, California. Phyllis was blessed to have four gorgeous great grandchildren who livened up her world and was expecting another in March.
Along with her family Phyllis loved her church family and was a lifelong member of the Mary Martha Circle at Grant Memorial Methodist Church, serving for more than twenty years as a part of its leadership. The friendships made in this group remained to the very end of her life.
Phyllis had many interests, she loved her gardens, the birds it drew, the outdoors and all God's creatures. She and Melvin always had a dog and when her family became independent and would arrive with all their dogs she loved having them around and always had a biscuit in her pocket.
The family would like to thank their special friends; Dr. and Mrs. Roger Pelli, and all who have called or visited.
Sincere "Thank You" goes to the Dr's and Nurses of Northern Light AR Gould Hospital CCU and the House of Comfort.
In Lieu of flowers, Phyllis would have preferred you make a donation to Grant Memorial Methodist Church or The House of Comfort, her family thanks you.
Friends and family may call on Friday, January 17, 2020 from 12-1pm, at Grant Memorial United Methodist Church in Presque Isle, where a funeral service will be held at 1pm. A reception will follow services at the church.
