Mars Hill - Norris Victor Boyd, 88, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, on November 18, 2019 at his home with his family by his side after a very long 14-year illness. He was born in Mars Hill on September 28, 1931 to the late Katie (Durost) Boyd and John "Jack" Boyd.
Norris graduated from ACI, where he was the State FFA President in 1949. He was a hard-working man with an incredible work ethic. He helped the family on the farm while growing up, became an oil delivery driver, he became a salesman and manager for Fuller Brush Company, then became an Insurance Salesman for Christian Mutual Life and later became an Independent Insurance Underwriter. He retired in 1995, but only to work with pride with his son as a plumber's helper and as a full-time gardener and hunter.
As a 15-year-old boy, he and the Rev. Donald Bickford claimed the land that is now known as the Aroostook Pentecostal Campground. He was devoted to what this represented and served as a board member and the treasurer for 38 years. He also served on the Board of Deacons for the Full Gospel Assembly for more than 30 years.
He was a simple and soft-spoken man, but one of honor, integrity, and selflessness. His words were few, but sweet and impactful; he was a true leader/listener that showed unconditional kindness and compassion to all. He was a man with unwavering faith in our one true God; he demonstrated this through his own humble example. He would stop whatever he was doing to help someone. His priorities in life were his faith in God and being with his family! He loved to hunt, loved the outdoors, loved the Red Sox. His impeccable dressing skills, his unique sense of humor, and his charming/loving nature will be missed by all.
He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Arnold and Wallace Boyd; sisters, Lillian Burke, Eva Bierce, Olga Beattie.
He is survived by the "one and only blue-eyed Hamilton girl" who he adored and cherished - the love of his life, his wife of 69 years, Linda (Lindy-Lu); his four children, Rebecca McCrum and husband Galen of Georgia, Fred Boyd and wife Ethelyn of Mars Hill, Christine Lane and husband Michael of Hudson, Joe Boyd and wife Roxie of Mars Hill;
grandchildren: Todd, Leslie, Ryan, Jennifer, Aaron, Aimee, Shea, Brandon, Alisha, Brad, Greg, Sandy, Mike, Diana; also 31 great grandchildren and many nieces/nephews and cousins; one special niece (more like a sister) Katie; also brother Ronald Boyd; and sister Ilene Burtchell.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to ALL the staff/caregivers who provided such wonderful care. Special thanks to Dr. O'Neill, Hospice, Kathy Foster, and Dad's special daily caregiver, Amanda Vaillancourt whom Dad loved and trusted.
Friends may call 12 Noon Saturday, November 23, 2019 at the United Baptist Church in Mars Hill, where a funeral service will be conducted at 1 PM with the Revs. Mitch Ross and Gil Nkamwesiga officiating.
