Caribou - Mavis W. Schoel, 95, of Caribou, died July 13, 2019, at Sanfield Rehab and Living Center in Hartland. She was born in Westmanland, Maine, February 23, 1924, the daughter of Ernest and Mildred (Anderson) Lindberg. Mavis attended Westmanland School and graduated from Caribou High School.
On August 19, 1961, she married Cleve Schoel in New Sweden. She and her husband had been married 41 years before his death on January 2, 2002.
Mavis and her husband enjoyed traveling the country. She also enjoyed their cottage at Long Lake, her cats and dog, Rex, dancing, working in her gardens, going to Sweden and seeing the home of her Grandparents.
Mavis worked for the Draft Board, retiring on October 9, 1981, then worked for the State of Maine, retiring in June 1989.
She is survived by 3 sisters, Phyllis Philbrick of Milton, Vermont, Helen Carlson or Dresden, and Loreena Lindberg or Winthrop, as well as by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Charles Lindberg.
A memorial service and internment will be at the Northern Maine Veterans cemetery. Date TBD. Donations can be made in her memory to Maine State Society for the Protection of Animals, 219 River Rd.
