Leon Deschenes Obituary

Madawaska, Maine - Leon Deschenes, 96, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2025, at a Madawaska healthcare facility. He was born on July 11, 1929, in Edmundston, NB, Canada, a son of the late Arthur and Anna Deschenes.

Leon was predeceased by his beloved wife of 70 years, Bertha Deschenes, who passed in 2021. He was also predeceased by his sisters, Stella Morshead and Gloria Smith; and his brothers, George, Rino, Conrad and Bea Deschenes. He is survived by his son, Donald Deschenes and his wife, Kim; and his daughter, Pauline Chasse and her husband, Gerard. Leon leaves behind his grandchildren, Paul Chasse and his wife, Chelsie, and their daughter, Ainsley; Scott Chasse and his wife, Renee, and their son, Caiden; Matthew Deschenes and his wife, Selena; and Timothy Deschenes and his wife, Allison, and their daughter, Noa.

Leon retired as a machine tender from Fraser Papers after 42 dedicated years. Even in retirement he maintained a steady routine and quiet discipline that defined so much of his life. A man of simplicity and cherished habits, Leon rarely missed his daily walk. Whether the weather was warm, brisk, or somewhere in between, he made his rounds with purpose. His stops often included Acadia Motors, where he enjoyed chatting with employees and admiring the newest Mercury on the lot - a small ritual that brought him comfort and connection. From there he would typically make his way to Bob's, McDonalds or Tastee Freeze for his daily treat and greeting familiar faces along the way.

Leon's greatest joy came from time spent with his family. Holidays, in particular, were moments he deeply cherished - gatherings filled with laughter, meals shared around the table, and the simple presence of those he loved most. He also enjoyed talking about politics and rarely passed up a good conversation or debate, always sharing his thoughts with humor and curiosity. His gentle humor and dependable presence will always be remembered.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the staff at Ridgewood Estates for the exceptional care, compassion, and dignity they provided to Leon over the past several years. Their kindness made a profound difference in his life and brought comfort to those that loved him.
