Homestead, Florida - Larry Daniel McKenney, 79, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, surrounded by his family. He died of brain cancer. He was born December 9, 1946, in Fort Fairfield, Maine, the son of Arthur Leo McKenney and Nora Levasseur McKenney.

After graduating from Fort Fairfield High School, Larry enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1966 and was stationed in New Jersey until his discharge in1968. The GI Bill enabled him to earn a pilot's license. He flew passengers between the U.S. and Belize, and he was also a spray pilot for the Spruce Budworm Treatment Program. Larry also farmed potatoes on his farm in Fort Fairfield and in Homestead, FL, for the Maine Department of Agriculture's Seed Test Farm where he was also the manager. Larry enjoyed canoeing on the Allagash Waterway and hiking in the Everglades. He was an avid reader of history and loved spending time with his beloved dogs, Maggie and Rosie; and his cat Mikey.

He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Peggie Getchell McKenney; two daughters, Kelly Johnston and Casey Duplessis; two grandsons, Colton Johnston and Danny Duplessis, and his former wife, Dawn Walton McKenney, all of Presque Isle, Maine. His many nephews and nieces lovingly called him "Uncle Larry."

Uncle Larry will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
