Mansfield, Conn. and Easton - Kay Arlene Rhoades (Grieves) passed away peacefully on February 6, 2019 following complications from a five year battle with melanoma cancer. She moved to Connecticut to be closer to family two weeks before she died.
Kay was born in Windsor, Vermont on October 12, 1945. She married George Washington Rhoades on March 18, 1972 and enjoyed a successful nursing career. She worked at a Manchester, Connecticut nursing home until she and George moved to Easton, Maine where she continued her career at Presque Isle Nursing Home. Kay retired early to lovingly care for George who passed away in 2012. Since then, Kay traveled to Connecticut to visit family during summers and holidays.
She was predeceased by her parents, Richard and Dorothy (Austin) Grieves, her brother Roy and sister Judy.
Kay is survived by her nephew Michael Grieves, wife Michele and children Katherine and Cameron, a niece Marie Lawson with husband David and children Eric and Brian, as well as niece April Hutchins.
Kay is also survived by three step-children Scott Rhoades, wife Ellie with children Andrea Martin and Summer Rhoades; Berry Rhoades, wife Brenda and children Nathan Rhoades and Julie Minnock; Dusty Rhoades, wife Marilyn and children Tracy Rhoades, Lance Rhoades and Alex Rhoades.
Kay is survived by many many great grandchildren whom she was very proud of and loved very much.
Let Kay's spirit live on in the lives she touched. She was fun to be around and loved her personal style of fashion which included colorful clothing with matching jewelry. She could change the mood in a room by just making light of things or cracking jokes. She is loved and will be missed.
