Mars Hill - After a battle with cancer, Karen Ann Cushman (Mars Hill) went home to be with her Lord and Savior at the age of 55 while surrounded by family at her earthly home on February 5, 2020. She was born on June 14, 1964, in Biddeford to Robert (Bob) and Sylvia Churchill of Fort Fairfield.
Karen was the third of five sisters and grew up on the family farm with an ingrained love for others and for Christ. After graduating from Fort Fairfield High School as salutatorian, Karen attended Faith School of Theology in Charleston, becoming an ordained minister and earning a B.A. in Theological Studies, which she used every day to share the power and truth of the Gospel with those around her, a beautiful and unyielding light to everyone she encountered.
It was in church that she met her husband, Nolan Cushman. They were married in nine months on April 15, 1989, and shared 31 years of laughter, countless combine rides, hundreds of trips to camp, and three beautiful children. Their love for each other was tangible and Karen was forever in awe of God, who lead them to each other.
If Karen had her way, no one left her house without a hug or full stomach, and if you came convinced otherwise, you would've quickly realized that after the fifth time she asked, you were, indeed, famished and a plate of food and a hug was exactly what you needed. Her infectious, vibrant personality never faded and made her an easy friend, confidant, mother, and wife. Her absence in this life, though greatly felt, is also comforted by the knowledge of the faith-inspired legacy she leaves behind and assurance of the resounding celebration as she walked, restored and awe-struck, through the gates of Heaven.
Her life will always be a beautiful testimony of the grace, love, and the power of Christ. One of the sweetest women to have ever walked this earth, Karen will be remembered for her brilliant smile and ability to love without question. Her faith was unwavering and steadfast, and she forever trusted in the goodness of the Lord.
She is survived by her husband, Nolan Cushman (Mars Hill); daughter Kara and husband, Caleb Grass (Mars Hill); daughter, Kayla Cushman (Fort Fairfield); son, Brandon Cushman (Cotuit, MA); loving parents, Bob and Sylvia Churchill (Fort Fairfield); sisters, Sherry Churchill (Fort Fairfield), Colleen Barkley (NC), Carolyn and husband, Jason Gammon (Scarborough); and many nephews, nieces, and cousins, all of whom she loved fiercely and ceaselessly.
In heaven, she has joyously reunited with sister, Kathy Churchill; and parents-in-law, Wayne and Opal Cushman.
Services will be held at Mars Hill Full Gospel Assembly (9 Maple Street) and be officiated by Pastor Wesley Faloon. Friends may call from 4-6pm on Sunday and 12-1pm on Monday with a service beginning at 1pm on Monday and a reception directly following at the church. A committal service will take place in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts in Karen's memory be made payable to Full Gospel Assembly, (Memo: Memorial Fund). Arrangements trusted to Dunn Funeral Home, 11 Park St., Houlton, ME 04730. Online condolences may be expressed on the Tribute Wall at dunnfuneral.com.
