Stockholm - John Carl Sodergren, 93, passed away peacefully on his home farm in Stockholm on October 22, 2019. He was born on August 4, 1926 with his twin sister Joyce in the Swedish log cabin built by his grandparents in 1884.
He attended Stockholm schools which went through 10th grade, then boarded out in Caribou his last two years of High School. He was blessed to recently celebrate his 75th CHS class reunion with his classmates.
Johnny joined the US Army on April 15, 1945 serving during World War II in the Armored Division, Infantry and part of the Occupation Forces stationed in Nagasaki, Japan. He met and married his first love, Elna Goranson on May 16, 1950. They raised their five children on the farm teaching them many Swedish family traditions which continue today. After 38 years of marriage, Elna sadly passed away from cancer. John was blessed to later find love again and married Eleanor Johnson. Together they enjoyed 26 years of marriage traveling many places including becoming "snowbirds" in Florida each winter. Many beautiful sunsets were enjoyed at her home on Madawaska Lake. Johnny was very active in his community serving in his church, the Stockholm Historical Society, the Nordic Lakers, the American Legion, the Cemetery Association and as a town selectman. He loved to play Scat with his friends and could often be heard sharing stories over a cup of coffee at Anderson's store.
He was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by all those knew him, especially his family. Johnny will be remembered for his faith in Christ, his love for people, his heart of gratitude, his sense of humor and his Swedish accent.
