Fort Fairfield, Maine - John R. Russell, 80, husband of Carol Ann (Tremblay) Russell, passed away Tuesday morning, May 5, 2026, at a Presque Isle nursing facility, following an extended illness. He was born October 14, 1945, in Fort Fairfield, the son of Vinal "Red" and Marie (Nichols) Russell.

He was a graduate of Fort Fairfield High School, class of 1962, and furthered his education at St. Mary's College, Halifax, Nova Scotia, receiving a bachelor's degree in education and French. John was a communicant of the Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Denis Catholic Church, Fort Fairfield. John served his country with the United States Army from 1969 to 1971, and was stationed in Georgia, and had been employed as a teacher for S.A.D. No. 20, Fort Fairfield, for 40 years. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council No. 1753, Fort Fairfield, and Aroostook Valley Country Club.

In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by one sister, Mary E. Young. He is survived by his wife, Carol Ann Russell of Fort Fairfield; one son and daughter-in-law, Sean and Katie Russell; two grandchildren, Courtney and Hannah Russell, all of Hooksett, NH; and several nieces and nephews. The Russell family wishes to express their gratitude to the doctors and staff of Presque Isle Nursing and Rehab Center and Northern Light A.R. Gould Hospital for the wonderful care John had received throughout the years.

Friends may call Wednesday, May 13, 2026, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield. A graveside service will be conducted on Thursday, May 14, 2026, 11 a.m. at St. Denis Catholic Cemetery, Fort Fairfield, with Father Thomas Xavier, S.M.A., celebrant.
