Presque Isle - On Saturday, August 31, 2019, Jessica J. Sawyer-Harding succumbed to an inherited, terminal illness, ALD or adrenoleukodystrophy.
Jessica was born on August 26, 1976. She attended the Presque Isle public schools, graduating in 1995. Thereafter, she studied at the Northern Maine Community College. She worked as an office assistant at The Aroostook Family Practice and Hardings Law Offices, before becoming totally disabled by her disease.
Jessica has three children, Toria, Alanah, and Elijah Tarbox, and two granddaughters, Flora and Zoey, all of Presque Isle. In addition to her children and grandchildren, she is survived by her parents, Alan and Mary Harding; her grandmother Jean Sawyer, of Presque Isle, and grandfather James Tweedie, Sr., of Blaine; her brothers Judson Harding, of Castle Hill, James Tweedie III, of Old Orchard Beach and Tyler Baham, of Denham Springs, Louisiana; and sisters Erica McKnight, of Presque Isle, Jennifer Strobel, of Yarmouth and India Tweedie, of Bethel, Vermont; aunts Gerri Gaylan, of Knoxville, Tennessee; Darlene Finnemore, of Mapleton; Betsy Sawyer-Manter, of Portland; Susan Sawyer, of Oakfield, Ronda Stone, of Scarborough, Linda Dunn, of Hancock and Patti McCrum, of Bethel; and uncles Michael Tweedie, of Blaine, Joe Tweedie, of Blaine, Dwight Harding, of Travelers Rest, North Carolina, and Paul Sawyer, of Presque Isle; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Tweedie, Jr.; her grandfather, Paul Sawyer, grandmother Elizabeth Tweedie; uncles Tim Tweedie and Mark Harding; and a nephew, Jaxon Tweedie.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, September 6, 2019, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home in Presque Isle. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at the Congregational Church with a reception to follow at the Presque Isle Elks Lodge. I remember Jessica as a student here at NMCC and how determined she was to take her education further for her children's sake. Our condolences to the entire family from your NMCC family.

I am so sorry for your loss, Mary and Alan. I didn’t know Jessica, but remember Mary talking about her when she worked for Literacy Volunteers.
