Dyer Brook - Janet (Bell) Hardy, 84, of Merrill and Dyer Brook, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2019, at Gardner Nursing Home in Houlton. She was born in Smyrna on Sept. 13, 1934, the oldest daughter of John and Verna (Scott) Bell. Janet will be remembered by all who knew her as a fashionable lady with a love for jewelry and nice clothes. She loved to cook and share her food with anyone who she felt needed it. She loved traveling, especially vacations in Myrtle Beach with her family close by.
Summer days spent at her camp at Drew's Lake were very memorable as well as the daily crossword puzzles, she shared results with her special friend, Irene Greenlaw. Jan held several jobs but will be best remembered for her work at the telephone company and at Southern Aroostook Community School.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Herbert (Junior) Hardy; her son, Kerry R. Hardy which she often referred to as the "love of her life"; and her daughter-in-law, Florence. She had two very special grandsons, Travis and wife, Karen Hardy, of Houlton and Derrick and wife, Krista Hardy, of Dyer Brook. She also leaves behind three very special great-grandsons, Mitchell and Nicholas (sons of Travis) and Johnathan Thomas Hardy (son of Derrick). She has many nieces and nephews whom often referred to her as "Aunt Jan Nan". She leaves behind special friends, Caleb and Brenda Bell, Deanna and the late Phil Morse, and her "special banker", Marguerite Lawlor.
She was predeceased by her parents, her baby sister, Myrna and her husband Peter Kinney and half-sister, Blanche Michaud.
The family would like to express our appreciation for the excellent care she received at Gardner Nursing Home during her stay with them. The staff, including Dr. Abouleish, nursing staff, cafeteria workers, janitors, and even the laundry workers were so very kind and compassionate to her from the time she entered the home until her final breathe.
At her request, there will be no services or visiting hours. A private family gathering will be held at the family's convenience at a later date. Burial will be in the Merrill cemetery. To leave condolences or share memories please visit www.bowersfuneral.com
