New Limerick, Maine - Jane Teresa (Callnan) Mitchell, 76, of New Limerick, Maine, wife of Richard B. Mitchell, passed away on May 10, 2026, at her residence after a courageous, six-year battle against cancer. Born on February 6, 1950, in Houlton, Maine, she was the daughter of the late Donald and Evelyn (Allen) Callnan.

Along with her loving husband, Richard, Jane is survived by two sons, Richard Mitchell III and his wife, Dr. Heather Mitchell, of Linneus, and Greg Mitchell and his wife, Mary Beth Mitchell of Surry, Maine; five brothers, Bill, Paul, Peter, James, and Tim Callnan; three grandchildren, Ryan Mitchell, Anna Mitchell, and Richard (Dickie) Mitchell IV; and several nieces and nephews. Jane was predeceased by her brothers, Andrew Callnan and Dennis Callnan.

Jane was born and raised in the Houlton area creating a beautiful life for herself and her family there. Jane was a lifelong devoted Catholic and was a longtime active member and pillar of St. Mary of the Visitation. Jane was a deeply loved and respected member of the Counsel of Catholic Women where she was an officer of several key positions throughout the years. Jane was also an active member of the Catholic Bereavement Committee. Jane's compassion and kindness was beyond compare and the lives she positively impacted could never be accurately measured. Jane was generous to a fault, with a sense of humor that would bring a smile to people when they needed it the most. Jane was light heartedly known for being "fashionably late" for most events. Jane was revered by most for her unwavering commitment to others, especially to acts of kindness to the ill or infirm. Without a doubt, with Jane's passing, the world has lost a shining example of human kindness and generosity.

Jane was the only daughter of eight children, and she was loved by all as "Janie." Jane's family was extremely important to her. She loved her husband, Richard, and extended family with her heart and soul. She will be dearly missed by all those who were touched by her humor, never-ending love, and generosity.

Jane's family would like to express their gratitude to our dearest family friend, Brad Ewing. Brad's continued support and endless love in recent tough days will never be forgotten by any of us.

A memorial Mass will be held May 28, 2026, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary of the Visitation, 110 Military St., Houlton. The interment will be determined by the family at a later date. Friends are invited to gather at St. Mary's church the morning of the funeral with a reception to follow.
