Portland and Presque Isle, Maine - Eva M. Wells, 83, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2026, surrounded by her family at Maine Medical Center in Portland after a sudden illness. Eva was born November 17, 1942, in Hartland, New Brunswick, Canada, the daughter of Arnold and Ruth (Bradley) Hallett.

She worked as a housewife and mother, and for many years, she worked for local farmers, from picking potatoes to eventually being the field boss. Eva also worked at McCain's while her husband, the late John Wells Jr., went to vocational school to earn his drafting degree. In recent years, she enjoyed knitting, reading and spending time with family. She attended the Advent Christian Church in Castle Hill and was a member of the Women's Auxiliary of the American Legion in Presque Isle.

Eva was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, John Wells Jr. The couple had four children, Tammy (Dave) Schindler of Alabama, Monica (Kevin) Bridges of Kennebunkport, John (Starla) Wells IV of Presque Isle, and Nina Swan of Yarmouth; ten grandchildren, Kristi and Kassi of AL, Gregory of KY, Megan of MA, Nathan of ME, John V. of Presque Isle, Ashley, Tanley, and Cole and Reed of ME; two adopted grandchildren, Jennifer of NC and Jeffrey of Canada; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth Prior of Centreville, New Brunswick; brother-in-law, Kenneth (Sandra) of Presque Isle; sister-in-law, Iva Hallett of Coldstream, New Brunswick; and several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Bonnie Ouellette, Jeff Willette and family, Debbie, Maxine; and her coffee buddies at McDonald's in Presque Isle, Jan and Aaron, Wade and Dad's red-neck fishing buddy, Mike, who continued to call and check on Ms. Eva.

A special thanks to former son-in-law, Ed Swan, for the tea, donuts and tv help; and a special thanks to Teresa's and her wonderful staff for all the lovely meals she had there.

A memorial service was held at the Maine Veterans Cemetery in Caribou on Monday, August 10, 2026, at 12 p.m. Arrangements were entrusted to Bowers Funeral Home 238 Main St., Presque Isle, ME.
