Houlton, Maine - Daniel R. Nicknair, 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, August 9, 2026. He was born August 7, 1942, in Winterville, ME, the ninth child of Frank and Alice (Deprey) Nicknair.

A lifelong Aroostook County man, he grew up on the farm, became a meat cutter and retired from working on Lawrence Gough's farm for 30 years. He was a fourth-degree Knight of Columbus. His life was dedicated to his family and quest for Peace.

He celebrated 62 years of marriage and is survived by his wife, Judy (Moreau) Nicknair; his children, Lisa Abdallah (Muda Abdallah) of Bangor, Mark Nicknair (Ellen Hawkins) of Southwest Harbor, Laurie Lipski of Houlton, and Holli Nicknair (Jeff Cohen) of Portland, Oregon; six grandchildren, Ashley Findlater, Jordyn Doody (Dalton), Amelia Findlater, Sarah Lepage, Jacob Lipski (Emily Lipski), Hillary Mahr (Jacob); seven great-grandchildren, Ephraim, Elliott, Isla, Noah, Bryson, Elijah, and Isabelle. He was predeceased by his daughter, Danielle Nicknair; his parents; and seven siblings: brothers, Richard, Cedric, Ellery, Ralph, Melvin, and sisters, Virginia and Dorothy. The surviving sisters are Barbara Shin and Theresa Slocomb. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Joanne and Hilda Nicknair; and many nieces, nephews, friends and furry friends.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on August 21, 2026, at St. Mary's of the Visitation Parish in Houlton with the Rev. Kevin Martin as Celebrant. Alternatively, livestreaming is available on the church's YouTube page: maryagnespaul or on their website maryagnespaul.org. Interment will be at North Main Catholic Cemetery in Presque Isle.
