Cheryl Lena Lagasse Obituary

Bangor, Maine - Cheryl Lena Lagasse, 62, of New Sweden, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2026, surrounded by loved ones after a long and difficult illness. She was a woman whose strength, humor, and deep love for her family carried her through life and touched everyone who knew her.

Cheryl was predeceased by her parents, Joseph Omar and Norma Lagasse; her sister, Kimberly Desjardins; and her brother, Gary Lagasse. She is survived by her sisters, Lori Lagasse of Caribou and Brenda Skidds of Berwick; her brother, Tommy Lagasse of Sanford; her uncle, Sheldon Akerson and his wife, Patti, of New Sweden; her nephew, James Skidds of Berwick; her nieces, Danielle Nichols of Caribou, Cassandra Bither and her husband, Jacob, of Caribou, and Molly Sasseville and her husband, Michael, of Sabattus; her nephew, Robert Desjardins of Fort Kent; along with several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Cheryl held a particularly special role in the lives of her nieces, Cassandra and Molly; and her nephew, Robert - helping to raise them after the loss of their mother, Kimberly, who was Cheryl's sister. She gave them not only a home, but love, protection, and stability during the most important years of their lives. Her devotion to family defined who she was.

She had a heart as big as the outdoors and found joy in the simple things, especially going for long rides with her mother and spending time with the people she loved. Cheryl was known for her quick wit and sense of humor, often bringing laughter even in difficult moments. Cheryl's faith in God was an important part of her life and a source of comfort and strength. She found peace in gospel music, often listening to it and sharing it with those around her. In her final days, she was surrounded by the people who loved her most and the music she cherished. She worked at Mecon in Caribou, and later in the office at Aroostook Home Health Services, where her caring nature extended beyond her family into the lives of those she supported. Cheryl's life was a testament to resilience, love, and selflessness. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those who had the honor of knowing and loving her. She is now at peace in God's presence, reunited with those who went before her.

Graveside services will be held at Jemtland Cemetery in New Sweden on May 2 at 1 p.m. Family and friends are welcome to attend.
