Carrie J. Smith-Gagne

Carrie J. Smith-Gagne, 60, wife of the late Pierre J. Gagne, passed away Tuesday morning, August 5, 2025, in Fort Fairfield as the result of a tragic automobile accident. She was born September 5, 1964, in Rome, New York, the daughter of Frank J. Sr. and Norma (Ellis) Smith.
She was a graduate of the Washburn High School, class of 1982. Carrie was a wonderful cook and worked as such at Dean's Motor Lodge, Portage for more than twenty years, The Aroostook Medical Center for four years, and at the time of death was employed as a cook at Cary Medical Center, Caribou. She was married to Pierre J. Gagne on May 25, 1990. Carrie loved to cook, and greatly enjoyed caring for her dog and her son Alan's dog. She enjoyed gardening and caring for her husband Pierre.
She was predeceased by her husband, Pierre J. Gagne on August 5, 2025; her father, Frank J. Smith Sr.; and one brother, Frank J. "Butch" Smith Jr. She is survived by one son, Alan R. Hitchcock of Limestone; her mother, Norma Smith of Presque Isle; one grandson, Shepard A. Hitchcock of Caribou; one sister-in-law, Irma Smith of Los Angeles, CA; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Saturday, August 16, 2025, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield. A service to celebrate the lives of both Carrie and Pierre will be conducted at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Michael Sullivan officiating. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held at the VFW Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, 130 Presque Isle St., Fort Fairfield.
