Naples, FL, Florida - Anna "Anita" Victoria Saia Bemis Zimmerman passed away peacefully on August 3, 2025, surrounded by her loving husband and children. Born on June 13, 1942, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Anita was the twelfth of fifteen children born to Vincenzo Saia and Santa Strazzulla Saia.

Anita is survived by her devoted husband, Robert Zimmerman of Naples, Florida; her children, Francis Bemis and his wife, Ellen, of Presque Isle, Maine, Julia Bemis of Malden, Massachusetts, and Sarah Fischer and her husband, Jeremy, of Yarmouth, Maine; and her six cherished grandchildren, Grace, Emily, and Edmond Bemis, and Ross, Drew, and Lewis Fischer. She is also survived by her stepdaughter, Sharon Perez of Marlton, New Jersey, from her husband's previous marriage. She is also survived by her siblings, Joseph J. Saia, Lily Abel, Ellen Brusard, Christine Clarke, Carol Sweet, and Paul Saia; as well as numerous beloved nieces and nephews. Her first husband, Edmond F. Bemis, also survives her. Anita was predeceased by her parents; and siblings, Rose Husain, Rosalie Ramsey, Stella Fowler, Dominic Saia, Joseph V. Saia, Mary Barrett, Frank Saia, and Philip Saia.

A proud graduate of Emmanuel College, Anita dedicated her life to family, service and education. She began her career as a teacher and later worked as a social worker, religious education director, and in the finance field, where she obtained her Series 7 license at a late age - a testament to her determination and lifelong love of learning.

Her Roman Catholic faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she and Bob deeply valued their fellowship with members of American Legion Post 135. Anita found joy in reading, traveling, and engaging in heartfelt conversations with family and friends. She was deeply proud of her entire family and took great pride in her Italian heritage, which shaped her values, traditions, and love of community.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Avow Hospice of Naples, Florida, for the compassionate care they provided to Anita in her final days.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Peter the Apostle Church in Naples, FLorida, with a reception to follow at the American Legion Post 135. Details will be shared once arrangements are finalized. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Anita's memory to the American Legion Post 135 Auxiliary, 2296 Tamiami Trail East, Naples, FL 34112.
