Julia worked as a Telephone Operator for New England Telephone & Telegraph for many years until the Houlton office closed in 1970. She was a telephone company retiree and a longtime member of The Telephone Pioneers of America.
Julia's retirement years were spent knitting, e-mailing her family and friends, playing bridge and being guardian for her youngest sister, Lois Gentle for 24 years. Julia also wrote many short stories about happenings during her life. A 60 page compilation of her stories was published in November 2018 and distributed to her close friends and relatives.

Julia was predeceased by her parents, her husband of 57 years and her youngest sister Lois.
Julia sends many thanks and love to three special friends. Bert Dunphy, who called her his second mother and treated her as such; Tish O'Donnell, who's big heart made her Julia's last best friend and Kim Kenney, a neighbor who became her caregiver for two years at Northwood, before Julia moved to Madigan House this past fall.
At Julia's request, there will be no calling hours or funeral services at this time. There will be a Memorial Service later in the summer, where her ashes will be added to her & Ronnie's double sided urn, buried in the Gentle Plot at Evergreen Cemetery in Houlton.
